The Boston Business Journal is reporting that Suffolk Construction, the largest general contracting company in Massachusetts and the builder of the Wynn Boston Harbor gaming resort in Everett, is issuing $1 billion worth of subcontracting bids for the casino project.

Wynn Resorts said in an announcement Wednesday that Suffolk's bid package is “among the highest ever issued for any private, union-built, single-phase development in the history of Massachusetts.”

The 3 million-square-foot Wynn Boston Harbor resort will reach 386 feet at its highest point, said Chris Gordon, the president of Wynn Design and Development in Boston, at the project's construction kickoff last week. The 33-acre Everett site will include a living shoreline, which is in the midst of environmental cleanup after Wynn received a Chapter 91 environmental permit from the state last week.

Wynn is also funding a $250,000 study with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to determine the feasibility of connecting the casino site to Somerville's Assembly Row campus via footbridge, Gordon said. Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone has vocally opposed the Wynn Boston Harbor project and last week told the Boston Globe city officials were giving “strong consideration” to seeking “a judicial review” of the project.

The gaming resort is expected to create 4,000 construction jobs and another 4,000 permanent hospitality jobs when it opens in June 2019.
