Dekatherm Buys Seven New Holland B90Bs From Tracey Road Equipment

Seven, in just about every culture from the earliest religions to pop culture, is a significant number. Seven days of the week. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Seven wonders of the ancient world. Seven sisters. Seven seas. Lucky number seven.

Dekatherm Inc., a pipeline contractor in New York State with locations in Auburn and Glenmont is sure that seven will be lucky since the company recently purchased seven brand-new New Holland B90B tractor loader backhoes from Tracey Road Equipment, headquartered in East Syracuse, N.Y.

The purchase was made in part to accommodate Dekatherm’s growing business. President Irving J. Wood founded the company in 1995; shortly thereafter he hired Vice President Bill Jarvis and Kurt Foster, bringing their combined 80-plus years of experience in the pipeline industry with them. Dekatherm works primarily for utility companies, including National Grid, New York State Electric and Gas, Columbia Gas and St. Lawrence Gas and has done work throughout the northeastern states including New York, Virginia, Ohio, Maine, Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.

With such a large territory and work that is so tough on the machines, the purchase of the new backhoes also was made to keep Dekatherm’s fleet of machines fresh.

According to Joe Capparelli Jr., equipment superintendent of Dekatherm, “The type of work that we do is very demanding so we like to turn our equipment fleet every two to three years. Typically, we contract with utility companies to install new or repair the existing natural gas main lines and or services to the residences or businesses that consume the natural gas.

“We already own numerous pieces of equipment that we have purchased from Tracey Road Equipment, including several New Holland backhoes and several New Holland LS160 skid steer loaders,” Capparelli continued. “I have been an equipment and truck mechanic for 25 years and recently moved to the position of equipment superintendent at Dekatherm. Our past purchases of New Holland equipment from Tracey Road Equipment has given us a comfort level not only with the New Holland machines, but also with the service, support and guidance that we receive from the employees of Tracey Road Equipment. My comfort with New Holland was reinforced once I got under the hood of the latest tractor loader backhoe models and saw all of the improvements to the machine’s serviceability. Everything from filters, grease fittings, hydraulic hoses and even the battery placement has been redesigned to make it much easier to service and maintain the machines. Other improvements include the availability of a 90 hp machine and placing an arch in the machine’s boom.”

All four of Dekatherm’s mechanics will receive special training on the machines from Tracey Road Equipment’s service department.

“Another reason that we are comfortable with our New Holland purchase is Tracey Road Equipment’s headquarters being located less than 30 miles away from our shop and their having five locations across New York State, which means great availability of parts and service just about anywhere in the state. Bill Lentz has been our sales rep with Tracey Road Equipment for the last three years and has been in the industry for twenty. His knowledge has been a tremendous asset,” Capparelli said.

Tracey Road Equipment has been in business for more than 30 years providing new and used construction equipment and trucks for sale and rent and the parts to go with them. Tracey’s service department can handle all makes and models of trucks and equipment and the company also has a collision, paint and frame shop. CEG
