The Delaware Valley Associated Equipment Distributors (DVAED) held its fall meeting Nov. 1, 2018 at Norris Sales in Conshohocken, Pa.

Tim Stevenson, portfolio manager of PennDOT; Daniel Fisher, vice president of government affairs of AED; and Mike Murray, Northeast regional manager of AED, delivered presentations for members during the quarterly meeting.

Stevenson spoke about District 6 infrastructure projects and funding in the Keystone State. District 6 covers the five-county Philadelphia area consisting of Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties with all combining for 3,556 miles of road and 11 percent of the bridges in the state. Annual maintenance budget is $167 million and has half the traffic signals in the state. District 6 has about a third of the state's population and about a quarter of the state's registered vehicles and about a quarter of the daily miles.

"As a result of TIP [Transportation Improvement Program], we've got $2.7 billion that we're looking to spend in the next four years, just from a Capitol Budget side of the table … that's beyond the maintenance budget allocation," Stevenson said.

Of that money, approximately three-quarters will go to actual construction, with the remainder of the funds going to planning, research and administration; right-of-way; utility; final design and preliminary engineering.

Currently, District 6 has $2.5 billion worth of projects that are active right now — 127 projects in total and of those, 12 projects are valued at more than $50 million.

Fisher provided DVAED members with an update on AED's national legislative priorities, including taxes, tariffs, infrastructure spending and more.

Murray offered an overview of the AED Foundation Accreditation Process, as well as a status of school accreditation efforts in the Delaware Valley region, including Lincoln Tech in South Plainfield, N.J., and Berks High School.
