Rick Perez kind of knows how the Austrian ski team felt in Torino during the Winter Olympics.

The Austrian men placed 1-2-3 in the slalom event, while three of Perez’s dealers did the same in the list of Dynapac’s Top Ten dealers in 2005.

Tractor & Equipment Co. Inc. (TEC) in Birmingham, AL, came out on top. It was followed by Metrac Inc. of Atlanta, GA, and Flagler Construction Equipment in Orlando, FL.

The rest of the top ten were as follows: Hayden-Murphy Equipment Co. in Minneapolis, MN, fourth; J.W. Burress in Roanoke, VA, fifth; Stephenson Equipment in Harrisburg, PA, sixth; All Island Equipment in West Babylon, NY, seventh; Closner Equipment in San Antonio, eighth; Pape Machinery Inc. in Eugene, OR, ninth; and Bee Equipment Sales Inc. in Lubbock, TX, tenth.

Perez, Dynapac’s Southeast regional sales manager, said TEC, the oldest existing Dynapac dealer in the nation, also ranked No. 1 in 2004, while Metrac took the title in 2003.

The top dealers are determined by the number of units purchased, dollar volume, market share and parts and product support purchases, said Brian Bieller, vice president of sales and marketing for compaction products at Dynapac.

Bieller said the companies who appear on the top ten list focus on much more than just making a big sale.

“They are complete all-around dealers,” he said. “It’s not just about buying a large number of machines, but they do well on the product support side after the sale.”

And not all of the dealers come from big markets. At least one made it on the list because its focus on support has given it an extremely high market share, Bieller said.

Based in Shertz, TX, Dynapac currently has 57 dealers in the United States with approximately 165 locations.

Bieller said the company is looking to fill in some territorial gaps located throughout the country.

Each of the Top Ten dealers were awarded trophies during the 2006 Associated Equipment Dealers Conference in San Diego and Bieller said the regional managers usually celebrate with them by going out to lunch or dinner. CEG Staff
