Construction Equipment Guide

Dynapac has introduced four tandem asphalt compaction rollers for quality asphalt finish, efficiency in operation and ease of service, extending the range in the 8.8 to 13.2 ton (8 to 12 t) class to six models.

A new 8.8 to 11 ton (8 to 10 t) class tandem asphalt roller, the Dynapac CC224HF, and a split-drum version, the CC234HF, together with 11 to 13.2 ton (10 to 12 t) models Dynapac CC324HF and split drum version CC334HF are introduced by Dynapac, designed to meet the needs of contractors, road contractors and rental companies worldwide.

The new rollers have been designed to achieve high quality surface finishes offering operational features such as “soft” starting and stopping to prevent bowing or cracking in the asphalt layers, allowing even unskilled roller operators to start and stop without leaving marks, according to the manufacturer. As a safety feature, the machine will drop out of the “soft” mode and brake immediately if the lever is moved quickly, signaling the need for an emergency stop.

New features simplify and speed servicing to guarantee maximum availability. Use of a double pump vibration system for example, eliminates the need for a vibration valve, making the system more efficient, aiding servicing and reducing fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer.

The new Dynapac models are powered by a Cummins QSB 3.3 T3 water-cooled turbo engine with after cooler and rated at 80 hp (60 kW) at 2,200 rpm. Also available is a 99 hp (74 kW) engine. The Dynapac automatic engine idling system cuts the idling speed after 10 seconds at full rpm in neutral. This further reduces emissions, provides additional fuel savings and minimizes noise.

Operator Efficiency

High quality compaction is enhanced by optimizing the ergonomics, ensuring that operators have continuous visibility of the operation and easy access to the controls. The machines feature more than 3 ft. (.9 m) visibility and full view over drum surfaces, drum edge and sprinkler nozzles.

The clear control panels on the new Dynapac models provide operators the information they need. All the gauges are displayed — water, fuel, voltage and number of hours — and the operator can change between menus at the touch of a button.

With the engine relocated on the rear module, noise levels are reduced for the operator and engine heat is removed from the operator’s platform. It also allows easy serviceability with both engine and hydraulics fully accessible through the large hoods.

Many of the enhancements bring environmental benefits through reduced consumption and quieter operation. Efficiency enhancements have saved approximately 11 hp (8.2 kW) in the operation with consequent improvements in the running cost and noise.

Compaction Control

The optional Dynapac Compaction Analyzer for Asphalt (DCA-A) provides accurate time information about the rolling, allowing the next pass to be planned, taking into account the asphalt temperature of each area. Tracking the number of passes makes it easy for the operator to maintain control of the pattern and achieve the best results. Better planning of the rolling operation also ensures jobs are carried out more efficiently, resulting in using less fuel. Further information can be provided through the optional Dynapac Compaction Analyzer software, which indicates the temperature in front of and behind the roller as well as the number of passes made on each section of the asphalt, for optimum compaction.
