When ENR Contracting was hired to take on the monumental task of demolishing Congoleum's former 65-acre manufacturing plant in Trenton, N.J., there was no question they were up to the challenge. For more than 50 years, ENR has been providing environmental management services for onsite demolition and cleanup at some of the most demanding job sites in the Northeast.

“We immediately sat down to figure out the best way to execute the demolition,” said Ted Budzynski, owner of ENR Contracting. “Our first call was to Hoffman Equipment, who we've relied on for over a decade to consult with us on the best equipment to use on a specific project, and then to provide those machines for our crews.”

“We needed to make sure ENR had equipment capable of handling the sensitive demolition required when there is a contaminated site, but still had the versatility to handle any issues that may arise,” said Tim Watters, president of Hoffman Equipment. “Ultimately, we recommended the Doosan DX 420LC-5 excavator with a PTC 13H hydraulic sheet driver and DX 300SLR-5 long reach excavator with a ditching bucket.”

ENR relies heavily on Doosan machines for all of their work, and the Congoleum plant was no different.

“Our experience with Doosan equipment is that it's extremely durable, especially with demolition projects,” said Budzynski. “The uptime is also critical, and we've had really good experiences with the Doosan equipment we've purchased from Hoffman.”

While demolition is going as expected, that's not always the case.

“On any project, no matter how much you plan, you're probably going to run into the unexpected,” said Budzynski. “But we've learned to work with others to find the right solution whenever an issue comes up. Hoffman has always been very responsive and cooperative in that regard, no matter what we need. In the past they have come out to the job site and shown us different methods of completing a job, and it's that type of collaboration that really drives the success of our entire industry.”
