Fairfield-Skanska Inc. has earned the statewide 2004 Construction Quality Award from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for its work on Route 340 in Page County, VA.

The VDOT Luray Residency received a companion award for project design and project management. The awards are given annually to recognize a project team whose work exemplifies the best in construction quality and management practices.

The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, with an excellent safety record. The Route 340 project centered around the reconstruction of a bridge over part of Route 683 and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The project significantly improved roadway alignment, safety and drainage.

Fairfield-Skanska Inc. is a member of the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA). VTCA represents contractors, aggregate producers, engineers and suppliers involved in the Commonwealth’s transportation construction and maintenance programs. The awards were presented on March 31, 2005, during the 2005 VTCA/VDOT Contractor-Engineer Conference in Norfolk, VA.

“Building and maintaining a safe and efficient transportation network is the mission we share with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Fairfield-Skanska is a leader in safely constructing transportation facilities for the citizens of the Commonwealth,” said Dick Daugherity, VTCA’s executive vice president. “We applaud the company and its subcontractors, suppliers and the VDOT team who designed the project and managed the partnership.”
