JAY, Maine (AP) - A Maine resident has been sentenced to a little more than a year in prison on a charge that he defrauded a company that received federal housing program money.
Forty-seven-year-old Timothy Gallagher of Jay pleaded guilty in April. He was sentenced to one year and a day in prison by a federal judge in Portland.
The Portland Press Herald ( http://bit.ly/2bCrKtr ) reports investigators found that Gallagher embezzled nearly $80,000 from Stanford Management LLC of Portland. The property management company specializes in affordable housing and gets millions of dollars from the federal government.
Gallagher worked as a full-time construction manager at Stanford. Investigators say he set up a competing construction company and paid himself a wage to hire subcontractors to work on Stanford's properties.
His lawyer didn't return messages seeking comment.
