Foley Inc. and the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association (NJLCA) held a two-day Landscape Management Network workshop at Foley’s Piscataway, N.J., location Jan. 30 and 31. Thirty-six attendees from 26 companies attended the workshop, which included a cocktail reception and a tour of the facility.

Landscape Management Network is a collection of systems, tools, and training to help landscape contractors build and manage their businesses.

Presenter Mark Bradley, owner of TBG Landscape and the Landscape Management Network, taught the simple systems for planning, pricing, hiring, tracking and rewards that grew his landscape company from backyard startup to annual sales more than $17 million in only 13 years.

He also explained the biggest mistakes he made along the way and how attendees could avoid them.

Every attendee left the workshop with:

• An operating budget with their numbers, for their company

• A pricing system that calculates the prices their company must charge to cover their costs and profit

• An efficiency rating that showed what their sales should be, and how money is lost to waste and inefficiency

• Estimating methods that improve field productivity and profit

• Dead-simple, proven methods to measure and track job costs

• Wage and bonus systems that get staff thinking like entrepreneurs

“The LMN workshop presented by Mark Bradley and hosted by Foley Inc. was a home run for everyone,” said Jody Shilan, owner of Jody Shilan Landscape Design and president of the NJLCA.

“As a landscape design/build contractor for over thirty years, I can honestly say that Mark and LMN have solved all of the business problems that we face as contractors by creating an online service that thinks the way that we do. LMN is a practical and logical process that truly allows you to work on your business and not just in it. The online tools are easy to use and the cost of the service is negligible compared to the ROI.

“As president of the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association, I can tell you that our members left the workshop excited and invigorated and could not wait to sign up and start using LMN to help them manage their businesses. The workshop was so successful that we have already put in our request to run it again next January.”
