Groff Tractor & Equipment has purchased the assets of the Vernon E. Stup Company effective April 15th, 2013 and has officially expanded its footprint to move into parts of Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. The company will operate out of the former Vernon E. Stup facility in Frederick, Md., which is located at 5859 Urbana Pike in Frederick, Md.

The Frederick, Md., branch will serve customers in western Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Maryland counties include Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Washington, Carol, and Garret. Virginia counties include Clark, Frederick, Louden, Shenandoah, Warren, and Winchester. West Virginia counties include Berkley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, and Morgan.

Groff Tractor will be the authorized full line dealer of Case Construction Equipment and Cam Trailers. Eventually, the company will look to expand its product offering to carry equipment that will complement the Case Construction Brand and enhance its ability to serve its customers needs. “Our slogan is ’for everything under construction,’” said Mike Savastio, president and CEO of Groff Tractor. “We like to be a one stop shop.”

Savastio said increasing its product support capabilities will be the main goal at the company’s new location. “Short-term goal for this facility in Frederick will be to improve product support,” he said. “Product Support is the difference maker in today’s equipment world as customers need for uptime is what drives their decision making when purchasing and renting equipment. This includes in-shop support, in the field service and parts expediting. To facilitate this, he added, “The company plans to increase its technician staffing, increase its service truck fleet and look to put a full time PSSR out on the road. Coupled with the access that the Frederick branch will have now to tap into the $3-plus million dollars of parts inventory that we currently stock at our other branches, we expect the customers in this new market to see a substantial level of increased support moving forward.”

Groff Tractor plans also to increase the Case brand in this new marketplace by focusing on the rental needs of its customers. “Rental is playing an increasingly larger role for our customers as they rebound from the market downturn from a few years ago. The Case brand has a full lineup of state-of-the-art Tier IV solutions that we plan to offer to this market to provide a solution for our customers rental needs.”

Groff Tractor & Equipment Inc., which is currently celebrating its 55th Anniversary this year, is headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and has locations in Ephrata, State College, New Stanton, Ebensburg and Cranberry Township — all in Pa. Its equipment lines in these locations include Case, Wirtgen, Hamm, Vogele, Kleeman, Wacker Neuson, GME, AGL, Talbert Trailers, Atlas Copco, Liebherr and Takeuchi.
