The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) were present on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at a ground breaking ceremony for the new Patuxent Business Park. A reception followed at the Chesapeake Hills Golf Club, located directly across the street.
Patuxent Business Park is one of the BOCC’s primary economic development goals. Its vision for this project incorporates unique architectural and design standards that place Calvert County at the forefront of rural economic development, creating a state-of-the-art research and technology park. The Business Park will create new employment opportunities specifically geared at residents commuting out of Calvert County, and will capitalize on other high-tech business expansion opportunities currently underway.
The 92-acre (37 ha), 650,000-sq.-ft. business campus will accommodate a variety of uses including Class A office and Flex space. Building construction will begin in the spring of 2003. Development of this project will enable the county to continue to market its four primary target industries: computer programming, software development and related services; administrative service center; defense related services; and non-defense related services, allowing Calvert County to immediately take advantage of expanding operations at PAX River and other expanding business opportunities in the Greater Washington Region.
