Terex Cranes made headlines the first day of bauma 2016 by announcing the relaunch of the iconic Demag brand for a line of all terrain and lattice boom crawler cranes. Grúas y Soluciones Logísticas Salas, S.A. de C.V. (GSL) made history by purchasing the first Demag-branded AC 220-5 all terrain crane headed for the Americas. The Demag AC 220-5 is destined for Mexico, where GSL will put the crane to work for its customers navigating the busy streets in and around Mexico City.

GSL was the first lifting company in Mexico to purchase a Demag crane many years ago.”

With a compact frame measuring only 14.5-m (47.6-ft) long and 3-m (9.8-ft) wide, the 220-tonnes (245-ton) capacity class Demag AC 220-5 all terrain crane is the perfect choice for navigating congested urban streets with ease. This 5-axle crane boasts all-axle steering, independent rear-axle steering and dynamic launch control to deliver superior maneuverability for positioning the crane into confined spaces. Even when carrying up to a 600-kg (1,323-lb) payload, the Demag AC 220-5 crane stays under a 12-tonne (13.2-ton) per axle weight limits.

What sets this new Demag crane apart from other crane models in its class is its incredibly long system length. The crane boasts a main boom length of 78 m (255.9 ft), the longest main boom reach of any 5-axle crane on the market. Additionally, with a variety of boom extensions available, the AC 220-5 crane's full system length reaches 99 m (324.8 ft).

“I was looking at several crane models in the 250-tonnes (300-ton) capacity class at bauma,” says Carlos Salas, President of Grúas y Soluciones Logísticas (GSL) and President of the Asociación de Grúas, Equipos y Dispositivos Industriales (AGEDI), “When I learned that the Demag AC 220-5 crane offers a 78-m (255.9-ft) maximum main boom length, I immediately knew this was the crane we needed to meet our customers' lifting needs.”

Scheduled delivery of GSL's new Demag AC 220-5 all terrain crane is set for June of 2016. It will be the first new Demag crane model operating in North America since the Terex reintroduction of the brand to the market.
