GUCA Hosts 2012 Fall Quarterly Meeting, Trade Show

Georgia Utility Contractors Association Inc. (GUCA) hosted its 2012 Fall Quarterly Meeting and Trade Show on Oct. 25 at the Freight Depot, Atlanta.

More than 100 GUCA members registered to attend this year’s Fall Quarterly Meeting and Trade Show with 17 trade show tables by GUCA associate members.

The day started off with education seminars that included “Which Critical Trends are Driving the Future of the Construction Industry?” by Brian Moore, FMI Corporation; “Revenue Recognition for Contractors” by Alan Clarke, Smith, Adcock & Co. PC; and, “Protecting Your Profit with Proper Project Documentation” by Ben Shapiro, John Hinton and Fielder Martin, Barker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC.

The trade show featured exhibitors representing a variety of different types of suppliers and vendors in the utility construction industry. Those participating in the trade show included 3M Corporation; Advanced Drainage Systems; Bairstow Lifting Products; Bobcat of Atlanta; Ferguson Waterworks; Flint Equipment Company; Georgia 811; Georgia Health Plan Trust; Go Build Georgia; H&H Insurance Services Inc.; Large & Gilbert PC; Leica Geosystems; LM Scofield Company; Southern Polytechnic State University; Tindall Corporation; Trench Shoring Services; and Verizon Wireless.

Students were on hand to receive GUCA college scholarships. Samantha Anselmo, a senior majoring in construction management specialty concentration and Errin Barnett, a senior majoring in construction management, represented Southern Polytechnic State University with each receiving a $1,000 scholarship award.

Tricia Pridemore, executive director, Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, gave an update on the Go Build Georgia program and initiative.

President Angela Lance introduced keynote speaker Ed Grisamore, motivational speaker and author.
