Established in 1999, Heavy Equipment Rentals LLC (HER) has served customers as the third largest independent heavy equipment rental company in Southern California. The company’s fleet features premium equipment lines such as Caterpillar, Komatsu,Hitachi, Volvo, Moxy, Ingersoll Rand, Freightliner, Bomag, Hyundai and Doosan.

HER’s custom built, Head Office in Corona boosts a modern service department and is located on 13013 Temescal Canyon Road in Corona, Calif., and caters to a diverse range of construction needs, such as general grading, pipeline, demolition, paving, water/dust control and excavating.

The facility includes a fleet of fully equipped field service vehicles that are dispatched at the first sign of a problem, which has become easier to identify with the use of the newly implemented GPS communications system, better routing and information flow, enabling mechanics to fix the problem and get the machine back to work.

“HER was foundered by Hayden Porter” said Grant Gillingham of HER. Hayden grew the company from its humble beginnings to more than 200 machines, two locations and service of all of Southern California. Hayden has recently returned to New Zealand because of family commitments yet still plays a active role in purchasing financing and strategy. His brother, Kent joined HER in 2003, now managing the business, will be responsible for taking the company to the next level, with his focus being customer service orientated.

“The company began operations in Murrietawith a handful of machines, since then the aggressive growth strategy has resulted in the company increasing in size,” Kent Porter. manager of HER, said. “The growth of the economy has seen the company diversify its markets and develop facilities to better serve our customers.”

Todd Hoskins, sales manager, has had a large impact on the successful development of the company during his five years tenure.

“I was working for Rebel Rents of Temecula when Hayden Porter and I first met,” Hoskins said. “Hayden approached me with his new found company and asked if I might be interested in helping HER move some bigger equipment. I entertained the idea but declined as he was a new foreign company. Two years later, he opened his doors to me again and because of his evident success and the relationship we formed, I joined his team in June 2001.”

Hoskins has seen HER change from 30 machines that served a small niche type of customer to one of the largest independent rental companies in Southern California.

“The transformation has at times been challenging, but that is typical of a company that experiences rapid growth in short period of time,” Hoskins said. “One of the most enjoyable aspects of this company is that they are not afraid of growing and make every attempt possible to support their employees and customers.”

Dave Golder, head mechanic of HER, “I worked for the Porter companies in New Zealand for 12 years as a mechanic before the opportunity to come to the states arose in 2000,” Golder said. “I originally came across to work on a back log of downed machines but it soon became evident that a full time opportunity existed. I returned later that year and joined HER as a full time mechanic.”

Golder indicated that the company’s growth has been personally rewarding for all the hard work that he has done during the early years.
