Heavyquip’s presence in North America has experienced a bit of a boom in recent months.

The Pearl, MS-based company, which specializes in aftermarket parts and service, opened up its 12th location in Dallas, TX, in November.

Then, it acquired the assets of Metaris Company’s Asphalt Paver Parts Division.

“This acquisition has provided us a new product line of paver wear parts at exceptional pricing,” said Heavyquip President Rick Farquhar.

The move, which became official Jan. 1, added two more locations to the company – Reno, NV, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Heavyquip now boasts 14 locations, 11 of which include full-service shops.

The new Dallas facility is one of them. It consists of two buildings on 3.5 acres — a 20,000-sq.-ft. renovated building that includes office space and the shop and a 12,000-sq.-ft. warehouse to store parts.

The branch has approximately $800,000 in inventory.

“We always felt like we wanted to move into Dallas. Because of the strong economy, now was the right time,” Farquhar said.

Managed by Mike Healy, the Dallas location boasts six service bays and employs eight people, including three technicians.

“Mike has done a tremendous job in the Dallas area for more than 30 years,” Farquhar said. “I appreciate the hard work he put in to finish construction in Dallas and to hire a good team of people.”

Farquhar said plans are in the works to expand the staff to approximately 16 people to include more employees in the shop area and field service technicians.

Heavyquip was founded in 1953 by Emanuel Crystal, who was in the scrap business. He started selling used parts under the name Jackson Tractor Parts.

“The used parts business proved to be lucrative,” Farquhar said.

In 1960, the company changed its name to Crawler Parts and became one of the first importers of aftermarket undercarriages in North America.

In 1984, the company adopted Heavyquip as its trade name to let new customers know they sold more than just crawler parts.

The company is still in the Crystal family and Emanuel’s son, Clayton, is board chairman.

It doesn’t seem like Heavyquip’s growth will be put on hold any time soon.

“We always have our eyes open and we’re currently evaluating some additional locations,” Farquhar said.
