Heavy Equipment Falls on Construction Worker, Killing him

The equipment that fell onto the man weighed more than 2,000 pounds.

MIAMI (AP) - Fire officials say a 29-year-old construction worker died when a piece of machinery that was being hoisted by a crane fell onto him as he stood on the 37th floor of a condominium building under construction in Miami.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll says the equipment that fell onto the man about 4 p.m. Wednesday weighed more than about 2,000 pounds.

Carroll says the man was already dead when rescue workers arrived at the site. His name has not been released.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1lZhEDv ) reports crews used another crane to get them man’s body down from the building, which will be 54 stories when completed.

Miami police are investigating the incident.
