Sealevel Construction of Thibodaux, La., the company that has been awarded two major contracts for the state's Bayou Chene Flood Control Project, has now earned a National Excellence in Construction (EIC) award for its Falgout Canal Flood Control Structure in Dularge.

The construction industry added 464,000 net new jobs in May, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. May represented the largest monthly increase in construction jobs since the government began tracking employment in 1939, a drastic improvement from April, which recorded the industry's largest month-over-month job loss.

Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit Sept. 23 to stop Westmoreland County from requiring its contractors to execute a project labor agreement with the Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council as a condition of winning certain taxpayer-funded public works construction contracts.

A second-year student in Mississippi State's College of Architecture, Art and Design is receiving major recognition from the state's most diverse construction trade association. Jalyn R. Wallin of Double Springs, Alabama, is a 2017 selection for a $2,000 scholarship from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Mississippi Chapter, which annually provides scholarships to building construction students at Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
