That's when she was challenged by a board member to think about the problem sustainably, and not just build another building, as the company started entering the directional boring market, now a major business unit for Vermeer Corporation.

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) Hall of Fame recognizes the pioneers whose inventions, ideas, leadership and courage have contributed to the industry and the community's quality of life. Since 2008, the AEM Hall of Fame has honored pioneering individuals who invented, managed, built and led the off-road equipment industry, and includes luminaries from John Deere and J.I.

The Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP) held its 52nd Annual Convention and Aggregate Miner Safety Conference in Springfield, Ill., in early March. One of the highlights was the presentation of the IAAP awards. A partial list of this year's winners includes Hanson Material Services; Thelan Sand and Gravel; LaFargeHolcoim; and Melvin Johnson of Dyno Nobel Inc.

The Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA) announced the recipients of the 2020 Safety Excellence Award and Craft Training Recognition Award. "SEAA members represent all sizes of structural steel erectors, many of them with exemplary training and safety practices," said Bryan McClure, chairman of SEAA's safety and education committee.

Steve Freckmann, general manager of Dawes Rigging & Crane Rental, a member of the ALL Family of Companies, has received the Pinnacle Award from the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA). The Pinnacle Award signals the end of Freckmann's three-year term on the association's board of directors, and also recognizes his more than decade and a half of involvement in leadership positions within the association.

Illinois-based Stevenson Crane Service Inc. (SCS) recently earned two international awards for crane and rigging safety based on performance numbers that greatly exceeded industry standards. The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA), an international trade association with more than 1,400 members from 46 nations, recognized SCS with the 2020 Crane & Rigging Group Safety Award and the Zero Accidents Award.

The AGC Education and Research Foundation has recognized Missouri University of Science and Technology Professor William Eric (Eric) Showalter with its Outstanding Educator Award, given annually to an educator who makes a significant mark in the field of construction education, and recognized Clemson University Student Corban Williams as the James L.

LBX Company announced that the Link-Belt 245 X4 Spin Ace has won the EquipmentWatch 2020 Highest Retained Value Award in the Excavator Crawler Medium (21.1-50.0 MT) category. Winners were announced March 10 at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2020. The Link-Belt 245 X4 Spin Ace excavator is built to exceed expectations, according to the manufacturer.

Yale Materials Handling Corporation announced the company's first Edison Award, taking home gold in the autonomous work solutions category with its robotic reach truck. A panel of more than 3,000 executives from around the world recognized the Yale robotic reach truck for its use of innovative technology to expand the capability of lift truck-based robotics and address key business challenges facing warehousing and logistics operations.
