New construction projects have been booming in North Texas due largely in part to a boom in commercial building throughout the region. According to a new report released by national research firm Dodge Data & Analytics, construction in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area increased by 5 percent from November 2018 to November of this year.

Skanska announced the official launch of its commercial development division in Los Angeles, alongside its first acquisition in the market, a fully-entitled commercial development site in Beverly Hills. Located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Almont Drive, 9000 Wilshire, once complete, will be a three-story, 40,000-sq.-ft.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) More than two decades ago when a mega entertainment and shopping complex was being conceived on a vast swath of swamp land in New Jersey, the iPhone didn't exist, Amazon was only selling books online and malls were where you went for all your shopping needs.

Peak construction will begin within the next month at the $1.6 billion Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, U.S.A. Inc. (MTMUS) facility in Huntsville, Ala., (Limestone County). At that time, up to 2,500 workers will be on site and 70 percent of those workers will be from the state of Alabama.

On Sept. 9, Road Machinery & Supplies Co. (RMS) announced the purchase of 14 acres of property in Bondurant, Iowa. The company will construct a new state-of-the art parts, sales, service and rental operations facility that will serve the Des Moines area and much of Central Iowa.

Caithness Energy announced on Aug. 29 that it has successfully closed a $1.6 billion financing for the construction of a fully-permitted 1,875 megawatt combined-cycle natural gas electric generating facility located in Guernsey County, Ohio, known as Guernsey Power Station, clearing the way for the project to move forward to construction.

Considered the largest construction project in the Great Lakes, the new Cleveland-Cliffs hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant in Toledo, Ohio, is already being described as a landmark facility. When it opens next year, the $830 million plant will have the nominal capacity to produce 1.9 million metric tons of HBI per year.

Progress continues on the reported multi-billion-dollar Shell Chemical Appalachia LLC (Shell) ethylene cracker plant in Beaver County, Pa., 30 mi. northwest of Pittsburgh. "Currently we have around 5,000 construction workers on site, with that number ramping up to a peak of 6,000 workers in the coming months," said Shell spokesman Ray Fisher in August.

Dermody Properties recently broke ground on a 251,800-sq.-ft. distribution center in the North Las Vegas submarket of southern Nevada. It will be located at 6565 Nascar St. on a 14-acre site and will be called LogistiCenter at Speedway. It is estimated that construction will be completed by first quarter of 2020.

Transwestern Development Co. announces it has been selected to provide development services for the transformational TMC3 Campus by the Texas Medical Center and the project's Founding Institutions: Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M Health Science Center, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey joined representatives of Toyota Boshoku America and local leaders in Limestone County April 10 to announce that the global automotive supplier plans to invest more than $50 million to open a manufacturing facility in Athens, creating a total of around 400 jobs once full production is reached.
