The 2021 Oregon Logging Conference will take place from February 25 to 27, 2021, at the Lane County Events Center and Fairgrounds in Eugene, Ore. Recently, Oregon Logging Conference President Scott Melcher announced the theme for next year's event, and released the following statement.

Construction on the Portland Bureau of Transportation's (PBOT) $25.8 million North Rivergate Overcrossing project, which is building a new bridge to meet the demands of the expanding industrial and commercial base in the area, began last October. PBOT awarded the contract to Cascade Bridge LLC to construct the bridge that spans Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF tracks.

The COVID-19 pandemic is having an impact on the construction sector across the country, with many private sector projects being deemed as non-essential by several state governments. But in regards to many departments of transportation projects, work continues on those projects that state authorities have determined to be essential.

Portland-based Bremik Construction/MB Structures, Oregon City-based Coffman Excavation, Clackamas-based General Sheet Metal Works Inc., Aloha-based Inline Commercial Construction, Salem-based Mid-Valley Commercial Construction and Portland-based P&C Construction were honored for having one of the nation's best construction safety and wellness plans in 2019 by the Associated General Contractors of America.

Construction is well under way of a $12 million project to replace six downtown bridges connecting roadways to over-the-water pier structures by the Columbia River in the city of Astoria, Ore. All of the bridges have been restricted to three-ton weight limits — the lowest the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) can go before having to close down the bridge.

Freres Lumber Co. Inc. is using a 22,500-lb. (11.25-ton) capacity Caldwell Posi-Turner to turn loads at its Mass Plywood Panels facility in Lyons, Ore. The Posi-Turner, which is designed to rotate bulky and hard to handle objects during manufacture or assembly processes, is operated beneath the hook of a 15-ton capacity overhead crane to flip panels in the lumber and timber company's finishing area.

While a few punch-list items remain, substantial completion of the Oregon Department of Transportation's (ODOT) I-205: Paving & Auxiliary Lanes project in the city of Portland was delivered last December by Kerr Contractors Inc. on-time and on-schedule.

Carter & Company Inc. (C&C) crews began work on the Oregon Department of Transportation's (ODOT) $18.7M, I-84 Graham Road Bridges Project in the city of Troutdale in February 2019 and are looking at beating the delivery date of December 2020.

Some of the most beautiful weather in recent years could be found at the 82nd Annual Oregon Logging Conference (OLC), held from Feb. 20 to 22, at the Lane Events Center and Fairgrounds in Eugene Ore. Thousands of people visited the three-day show, including more than 1,500 high school and elementary school students and educators.

Oregon City Council recently approved the bid of Hillabrand & Sons Construction LLC, Northwood, for the Starr Avenue Extension and Norden Road Waterline Improvements Project. The project, which will improve the water distribution system, consists of replacing approximately 5,300 ft.
