Construction crews in New York and New Jersey are at work on a project that is a first for bridge construction. Crews in the joint “Raise the Roadway” venture of Skanska Koch/Kiewit Infrastructure are raising the roadway of the Bayonne Bridge from 151 ft.

The Port of Seattle Commission approved $5 million for the city of Seattle's Lander Street Grade Separation Project, expected to cost a total of $140 million when complete. The city is seeking to finalize the design of the grade separation in summer of 2017 and begin construction early the following year.

Fixing South Carolina's highways again tops legislators' priority list for the 2017 session that kicked off Jan. 10, but roadblocks remain to any plan that increases gas taxes to fund construction. “Our deplorable roads have got to be fixed,' said Senate Minority Leader Nikki Setzler, D-West Columbia.

Gov. Scott Walker's administration plans to close a shortfall in road funding by making cuts, delaying a number of major projects and borrowing $500 million. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the state Department of Transportation has developed a budget proposal that would cut $447.4 million from state highway programs but provide nearly $70 million more for maintenance and $65 million more for local governments.

For years, motorists driving below the long lived 80-year-old TH 36 bridge crossing over Lexington Avenue in Roseville, Minn., have seen the scaling of concrete from the shallow arch above them. Despite its rugged appearance, the arch and its solid concrete façade continued to hold onto its strength and grace.
