In continuation of its fifth transaction with Community Energy, D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) has acquired the Hunter solar project of 100 MW capacity in Utah from a Pennsylvania-headquartered renewable energy project developer. Further, this Hunter solar project has a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with PacifiCorp and it will provide data center operations of Facebook with the renewable energy certificates from this new solar power.

Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. announced the closing of a construction financing, tax equity commitment, as well as a seven-year term loan facility for the 200 MW Hillcrest solar photovoltaic project located in Brown County, Ohio. In aggregate, the $191.8 million financing was led by CIT's Power and Energy group and includes MUFG and Mizuho, as well as Wells Fargo as the tax equity investor.

O&G Industries, Connecticut's largest privately held construction company, recently went live with a 1.3-megawatt (MW) solar array at its quarry on Roxbury Road in Southbury, Conn. The 3,762-panel array is coupled with a 280-kilowatt (kW) Energy Storage System (ESS) that will help to augment supply during peak demand cycles.

CIM Group LLC, a real estate investment firm, has reportedly commenced the construction of Westlands Solar Park (WSP), one of the largest permitted solar parks across the globe that could generate 2.7 gigawatts of renewable energy, which may offer clear energy to over 1.2 million homes.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Facebook is building a massive solar farm in West Texas that's believed to be one of the largest solar projects in the nation and the social media giant's first direct investment in renewable energy. Boston-based renewable energy developer Longroad Energy recently announced it was partnering with Facebook on the $416 million project, just as Facebook is finishing construction of a data center near Albuquerque.

CWI Crane & Rigging has purchased a new 300 ton (272 t) capacity 2019 Demag AC250-5 from Empire Crane Company's New England branch. Owner Chet Chludenski had several reasons for choosing this model including its safety features, IC-1 Plus variable outrigger flexibility, and the Demag and Empire Crane product support teams.

E.ON has started construction on its West of the Pecos solar project, located in Reeves County, Texas, approximately 75 mi. southwest of Midland-Odessa. The 100 megawatt (MWac) project is expected to come online in December 2019 and consists of more than 350,000 photovoltaic panels built over a 670-acre area.

Internet giant Google announced Jan. 16 it plans to build a pair of large-scale solar energy farms to supply electricity to its new data centers in Tennessee and northern Alabama. Located in Hollywood, Ala., and Yum Yum, Tenn., the solar farms will be able to produce around 150 megawatts each, the company said in a blog post.

Sunworks Inc., a provider of high-performance solar power solutions for agriculture, commercial, industrial (ACI), public works and residential markets, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract to develop a 600kW roof mount and parking canopy project for a food manufacturer in New Jersey and a 700kW project for a self-storage facility in Massachusetts.

Leaders representing the coalition of organizations contributing to the largest solar power plant in Georgia gathered Nov. 8, to celebrate start of construction. The ceremonial groundbreaking brought together state officials, Georgia Power, Georgia Public Service Commission, Twiggs County Commission, Origis Energy and First Solar, Inc.

Following a three-year, five-way competitive process, the U.S. Department of Energy has selected the Energy and Geosciences Institute (EGI) at the University of Utah to develop a geothermal laboratory near Milford, Utah. The laboratory, called Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) will focus on developing enhanced geothermal systems which could greatly expand the nation's capacity to produce geothermal energy.
