Wirtgen

Right out of the gate, the first W 210 Fi mills in North America won big as they cold-planed the famous Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham, Ala. There, in summer 2019, Mill It Up LLC, Warrior, Ala., — as milling subcontractor for Granite Construction Co.

A soil compactor combining oscillation and conventional vibration in a single drum is adding value to in-place recycling projects by slashing the time it takes to get compaction to required density. In northern Michigan, a Hamm H 13i VIO dirt roller — in oscillation mode — was paired with a Wirtgen WR 240i recycler/reclaimer to rebuild Michigan S.R.

In a grueling mountain application — while aimed downward at a 30-degree angle and steadied by cables from the top — two Wirtgen cold milling machines removed a temporary, emergency-placed concrete surface of the lower part of the great spillway of the Oroville Dam and reservoir in advance of permanent resurfacing.

With the addition of two new models, Wirtgen is equipping its slipform pavers in the 40 ft. (12 m) class with proven technologies from the SP 60i and SP 90i series. Inset slipform pavers are an ideal choice for the cost-effective paving of large-scale concrete pavements, such as highly durable highways or aircraft runways.

When road surfaces and paths are paved over preplaced reinforcing steel, the concrete can often only be supplied from the side. Wirtgen's WPS 62i/WPS 62 placer/spreader is a practical choice for this application. As the first machine in the Wirtgen paving train, it travels over the reinforcement in front of the slipform paver and texture curing machine.

On February 27, Linder Industrial Machinery hosted a seminar for customers at "The Farm" in Selma, N.C., featuring industry experts from Wirtgen America. Tim Kowalski, applications support manager of Hamm's compaction division, and Laikram "Nars" Narsingh, commercial support and development manager, led the discussion "Fundamentals of Paving and Compaction" in a classroom format and machines were on display for viewing and questions.

With the new generation of cold recyclers, Wirtgen has developed the world's most modern machines for cold in-place recycling. The tracked recyclers also deliver impressive results during full-depth recycling and high-performance milling. The W 380 CRi made its North American debut at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2020, set up as a recycling train with the Vögele paver SUPER 2000 - 3i including extending screed AB 600 TV+ and tandem roller HD+ 140i VVHF HCQ from Hamm.

With the successful launch of its new generation of large milling machines, Wirtgen has made lasting improvements to the process of milling in terms of performance and efficiency. The specialist in cold milling machines has now added the W 220 Fi and W 250 Fi flagship models to its intelligent F Series.

Following its successful market launch, cold milling machine specialist Wirtgen is rounding out its new generation of large milling machines at the ConExpo-Con/AGG 2020. The W 250 Fi and W 220 Fi will make their world premiere at the show. The two W 210 Fi and W 207 Fi large milling machines as well as the W 380 CRi cold recycler, exhibited together as a recycling train, will make their North American debut.

At World of Concrete 2020, Wirtgen Group will show an inset concrete paving train, consisting of two new machines being introduced to the world at the show: the WPS 62i placer/spreader, and SP 124i slipform paver, plus the TCM 180i texture curing machine.
