At Intermat 2006, JCB took the wraps off two new additions to its Auto range of new generation excavators.
The first JCB Auto tracked excavators were unveiled in 2003, boasting modern styling, more power, better performance, greater efficiency and lower operating costs.
Since then, JCB has introduced the same design across its tracked machine line-up.
Building on this platform, JCB is now unveiling two new excavator models in its Auto range: the JS330 Auto and the JS190 Auto.
JS330 Auto
Targeting the global mining, quarrying, earthmoving, demolition and construction industries is the 72,752 lb. (33,000 kg) JS 330 Auto.
In line with latest legislation, the JS330 Auto is powered by a Tier III compliant, 284 hp gross (212 kW gross) Isuzu engine which gives maximum efficiency, low noise levels and emissions, and is 14 percent more powerful than its predecessor.
The engine is fitted with a new speed sensing system, which recognizes hydraulic requirements when working and automatically adjusts the engine and hydraulic horsepower accordingly.
The JS330 also has an electronically-controlled cooling fan, which reduces noise and improves performance by maintaining the optimum working temperature regardless of the ambient temperature.
The new system ensures that, even during heavy digging, the engine responds instantly to changes in the hydraulics and runs at the optimum speed for the task. The result is greater responsiveness and quicker cycle times, improving the productivity the new JS330 can deliver, according to the manufacturer.
The latest engine technology also has allowed improved cold start performance and the machine features ground level servicing for all daily checks — including electronic oil level monitoring, which eliminates the need to climb up onto the upper structure. In common with other JCB Auto models, the new JS330’s oil and water cooling packages are positioned side-by-side, reducing clogging by dust and dirt and presenting one surface, which can be easily cleaned.
Attention has been paid to the operator’s working conditions and the Auto cab provides a comfortable working environment. All controls are positioned within 180 degrees of the operator, eliminating the need to twist around. In-cab noise levels also have been reduced.
The combination of a re-designed component layout and the adoption of new styling have resulted in a low-level superstructure and the engine cover height being reduced by one-third. These changes, and the cab’s increased glass area, have enabled vast improvements in visibility to the rear of the machine, improving on-site safety and the accuracy of operation, according to the manufacturer.
JS190 Auto
Targeting the European, North American and Middle Eastern markets, the 43,210 lb. (19,600 kg) JS190 will bridge the gap between 39,000 and 46,000 lb. (17,690 and 20,865 kg) tracked excavators. Due to the width of the undercarriage, it avoids the transport regulations that restrict the transport of 46,000 lb. machines.
Powered by a six-cylinder, Tier II compliant engine producing 131 hp (98 kW), its digging performance gives a 10 percent productivity advantage. The introduction of this more powerful engine enables tasks to be performed at lower engine speed with a subsequent 14 percent improvement in fuel efficiency. Lifting performance and cycle times also are improved by 5 percent, according to the manufacturer.
As with the entire Auto range, the JS190 features the latest cab design and enhanced operator comfort levels, improved serviceability and an intelligent Advanced Management System (AMS).
As well as recording key operating data, AMS controls all the machine’s major functions, including engine speed, pump power, auto-idle, wiper and auxiliary circuits. The improved system — which comes with auto, economy, precision and lifting modes — has been enhanced to make the machine more efficient.
