Modern Group congratulates Joseph Dutko upon his retirement from the company after 43 years of dedicated service. Joe has been a trusted manager, guide and project manager for multiple generations of employee-owners of Modern.

An Air Force veteran, Joe was hired in March 1976 as shop foreman for Modern's newly constructed Bristol, Pa., headquarters. It was a period of intense growth for Modern and he was given the opportunity to grow with it. He was entrusted by Modern's founder Joe McEwen to establish and develop several initiatives for the betterment of the company, most notably the Safety Department in 1991.

As Safety Director and Facilities Manager, he held enormous responsibility to protect the health and well being of Modern's technicians, service team and branch staff. Overseeing branches across multiple states often required sacrifices of time and attention that often could go unnoticed, from routine late-night township meetings to early morning emergency maintenance calls. Joe helped make sure the gears of Modern Group ran smoothly. On March 19th, 2019 Joe was honored by Modern's Board of Directors and assembled employee representatives at the annual shareholder's meeting, receiving a standing ovation for his contribution to the continued success of the company for over four decades.

Joe looks forward to a happy retirement full of travel with his wife Beth and his hobby of photography. "Everyone must remember for your own safety, regardless of what you are doing, particularly when you're alone; that you are your first and last line of defense." Joe reflected recently, "choose wisely."

From all the employee-owners of Modern we wish Joe a happy retirement!
