Karla Abramson, president of KGM Contractors Inc., of Angora, Minn., died unexpectedly at home of natural causes March 28. She was 52.

Ms. Abramson was born March 6, 1961 in Virginia, the daughter of Forrest and Carol (Kyllonen) Abramson. She grew up in Orr, graduating from Orr High School as valedictorian of her class in 1979. She furthered her education graduating with honors from Michigan Tech, where she completed its nursing program, becoming a registered nurse. She was employed as a registered nurse at the Cook Hospital for several years.

Since the early 1990s, she has resided in Angora. Ms. Abramson was employed with the family-owned Abramson Construction, then bought the business with her brothers (Kerry, Gary and Mark) to form KGM Contractors, where she currently served as chief executive officer.

She was an active 25 year member of the Associated General Contractors in Minnesota. Ms. Abramson was a tremendous asset to the firm and with her direction the company earned numerous awards from MnDOT, the insurance industry, and for a partnership program from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

In leisure time, she loved vacationing in warmer weather and spending time on the beach. She enjoyed hunting — especially deer and pheasant, liked her flower and vegetable gardens and treasured the times camping with her significant other, Scott. Her great joy in life was time spent with her girls. She loved her “boys,” her dogs Dewey and Louie.

Ms. Abramson’s family fondly recalls her as being an amazing woman along with having a “big heart” and a concern for everyone.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kerrisa (Joel) Anderson of Cook and Kaylee Malmstrom of Angora; one stepson, Ben Jandrey of Virginia; her parents, Forrest and Carol Abramson of Orr; her significant other, Scott Jandrey of Angora; three brothers Gary (Ginger Hooper) Abramson of Orr, Mark Abramson of Britt and Kerry (Laura Roivanen) Abramson of Orr, a sister, Michelle (Victor) Gunderson of Pike-Sandy; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

The funeral was held April 2 at Trinity Luthern Church in Cook. The Rev. Joey Bailey was the officiant. Visitation was held April 1 at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
