Construction Equipment Guide

Komatsu America Corp.’s PC300HD-8 hydraulic excavator combines the PC300LC-8 upper structure with the PC400LC-8 fixed gauge undercarriage, providing increased stability and lift capacity in its competitive size class. The machine has a flywheel horsepower of 246 hp (183 kW) and an operating weight of 85,085 to 88,551 lbs. (38,594 to 40,166 kg).

The PC300HD-8 is equipped with the latest Komtrax technology (Level 3), which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis.

The Komtrax fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

Stability, Lift Capacity

By utilizing the same fixed gauge undercarriage as the PC400LC-8, the lift capacity and stability of the PC300HD-8 greatly exceeds other models. In applications that require long arms or heavy lifting at maximum reach, the PC300HD-8 delivers premium performance to get the job done, according to the manufacturer.

Large Multi-Color Monitor

The easy-to-view 7-in. (17.8 cm)LCD monitor enables accurate smooth work and displays data in 10 languages for global support. There are five modes of operation that may be selected through the monitor panel: power mode, economy mode, lifting mode, breaker mode and attachment mode.

The monitor panel also displays the automatic air conditioner, machine maintenance tracking, and the image from the standard, counterweight-mounted rearview camera system.

Easy Maintenance, Serviceability

The PC300HD-8 provides easy service and maintenance access in order to reduce costly downtime. The radiator and hydraulic oil cooler are mounted side by side, making it simpler to maintain and service these two components when required.

The machine is equipped with the Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which performs three main functions that are displayed on the large LCD color monitor. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should an abnormality occur.

EMMS often prevents a small problem from becoming a major service issue, contributing to reduced cost of operation. Second, the system tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, provides on-board tracking, and advises current required maintenance. Third, EMMS provides error codes and troubleshooting assistance to mechanics in order to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

Durability, Reliability

All major components on the new PC300HD-8 including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors, and control valves are designed and produced by Komatsu. The boom and arms exhibit long-term durability and are highly resistant to bending and torsional stress due to large cross-sectional structures, thick high tensile strength steel, interior partition walls, and large one piece castings. Komatsu frames are designed using three-dimensional CAD and FEM analysis technology.

The electronic connectors are DT-type and seal against dirt and moisture. All hydraulic cylinders are protected by metal guard rings for additional reliability.

Hydraulic hoses are equipped with O-ring seals versus conventional taper seals to provide extended leak-free life. The standard high pressure in-line filters at the pump outlet port provide an extra level of protection to the hydraulic system. Long replacement intervals for hydraulic oil, engine oil, and filters keep the machine up and running for increased hours on the job.

Versatility to Match Different Job Applications

The PC300HD-8 comes equipped with two boom mode settings, five working modes, and Power Max control. These modes are designed to match engine speed, pump flow, and system pressure to specific application requirements, providing the operator with the flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand.

With many excavators operating a wide variety of working attachments, the PC300HD-8 is equipped with breaker mode (single action circuit) and attachment mode (double action circuit), which allow the operator to adjust hydraulic flow directly from the cab through the large monitor panel.

The attachment flow control has been improved and is more flexible for effortless attachment adjustments. In hard digging applications, a one-touch Power Max Function increases digging force by 8 percent for 8 seconds, creating a noticeable difference in digging performance, according to the manufacturer.

Cab Enhancements

A wide spacious cab with a high back operator seat provides support and comfort for reduced fatigue and higher productivity. The multi-position, PPC (pressure proportional control) levers and armrest integrated with the console levers allow the operator to work in comfort while maintaining precise control.

The highly pressurized cab keeps dust from entering the operator’s compartment, while its rigid frame offers wide visibility and has enhanced sound absorption. The multi-layer viscous cab mounting system incorporates longer stroke and the addition of a spring.

Combined with a high rigidity deck, the new cab damper mounting reduces noise and vibration levels at the operator seat. A high capacity automatic heater/defroster/air conditioning system is incorporated into the new monitor panel and is provided as standard equipment.
