The Ohio Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Association (OAIMA) held a surprise retirement party for long time Executive Assistant, Maralynn Loos after the association’s recent Board Meeting. Loos has been with the association since the 1960s and has worked with five executive directors and 34 association presidents. According to Patrick Jacomet, the association’s current executive director, Loos’ contributions to the association over the years have been immeasurable. Those feelings were echoed by a number of association members as they took to the podium to relate anecdotes about their experiences with Loos and her can-do, no nonsense approach toward getting things accomplished. Association Legal Counsel, Brian Barger, Eastman & Smith Ltd, read proclamations of Loos’ accomplishments from the Ohio Congress and Ohio Gov., John Kasich.

During the event, Loos indicated that this year’s OAIMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show, scheduled for Nov. 12 to 13 would be bittersweet as it would be the last event for the association in which she would play an active part.

Appropriately, the party was held at the Hilton Columbus of Easton, where the OAIMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show has been conducted since the hotel’s opening. According to hotel management, the 2000 OAIMA annual meeting and trade show was the hotel’s first trade show event and Loos played a key role in the selection of the hotel for the event.

As well as association staff and members from all over Ohio, Loos’s daughter, Meghan Schofield came in from San Francisco to wish Loos all the best.

The Ohio Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Association is Ohio’s trade association serving the mining operations, with the exception of coal within the state. Commodities supplied by its membership include natural and manmade construction materials such as a variety of aggregates, salt, clay, shale, gypsum, building stone, lime, cement, and recycled concrete.
