SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) A Shreveport area company was among a group of builders from Louisiana and across the nation to lead the construction of an “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” home in New Orleans.
“When approached by [the show], we did not hesitate to say yes,” said John Rutledge, owner and manager of Rutledge Builders, which is based in Benton.
Rutledge and the “Extreme Makeover” television crew rebuilt a home damaged by Hurricane Katrina more than two years ago.
“My family and I are very honored to help make another family’s dream come true and at the same time help our state, Louisiana, take another step forward in its recovery from one of the most devastating natural disasters in our nation’s history,” Rutledge said.
The seven-day build in the greater New Orleans area is the show’s last stop on a 50-state tour and will wrap up the show’s season. The build ran March 6 to 14, and the two-hour episode will air on May 18.
Deltec Homes, of Asheville, N.C., served as the lead builder and was assisted by several builders from Louisiana and around the country. Rutledge Builders was a major contributor in managing the build.
Other builders who signed on as part of the leadership team hail from Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, New York, Mississippi and Tennessee.
