WASHINGTON (AP) The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded nearly $3 million to the Maine Department of Transportation for repair or reconstruction of federal aid highways and roads on federal land damaged during Tropical Storm Irene.
The money was granted under the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief program.
The department’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded a $650,000 formula grant to the Maine Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Highway Safety to support the state’s highway safety programs.
U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins said in a joint statement that the money will keep the highways safe and accessible.
