The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) has named Eugene P. Martineau as the 2006 recipient of the William B. Allen Award. The award will be presented to him in March during NRMCA’s 2007 Annual Convention in La Jolla, Calif.
Martineau has more than 39 years’ experience in the ready mixed concrete and related industries, and at the executive level has overseen ready mixed operations in 15 states.
He is a longtime supporter of NRMCA, having served the association in many roles, including five terms as a member of the board of directors and four times on the executive committee.
He has been a member of numerous association committees, including promotion, membership, long-range planning, government affairs, concrete industry alliance and industry relations.
Martineau also has been a member of the board of trustees of the RMC Research Foundation since its inception in 2001 and was chairman of the Foundation’s Program Committee from 2001 to 2003. In 2004, he was elected chairman of the Foundation.
He was a founder of RMC 2000, a grassroots industry movement that was a positive catalyst for transformational change for both the industry and NRMCA and served as its national director from 1994 to 1997.
Martineau currently serves as chairman of the National Steering Committee of the Concrete Industry Management program. Through his leadership, the program has expanded to its current status of four participating universities.
Martineau was a founder of U.S. Concrete and has served as its president, chief executive officer and director since its inception in 1998. During that time, U.S. Concrete has grown to become one of the ready mixed industry’s largest producers.
Prior to joining U.S. Concrete, he served as executive vice president of Southdown Inc.
“Gene’s contributions to NRMCA and our industry are second to none,” said NRMCA President Robert Garbini. “He has always freely given his time and talent to whatever we’ve asked and served with distinction in all that we’ve asked him to do.”
The Allen award is named after one of the ready mixed concrete industry’s most distinguished and accomplished figures.
Bill Allen has more than 55 years of concrete- and aggregates-related experience. He owned and managed the largest ready mixed concrete, sand and gravel, block and building materials company in Memphis until 1981 and has been working in the industry as a consultant ever since, including currently serving as chairman of Allen- Villere Partners.
He has lectured to more than 26 ready mixed concrete and aggregate state associations, participated in all 21 RMC 2000 implementation workshops and conducted workshops for numerous NRMCA national conventions, state association conventions and the ConExpo-Con/AGG trade show. He also has published articles on valuation in several trade magazines.
NRMCA, based in Silver Spring, Md., represents the producers of ready mixed concrete and the companies that provide materials, equipment and support to the industry. It conducts education, training, promotion, research, engineering, safety, environmental, technological, lobbying and regulatory programs.
