MasterRents Says ’Yes We Can’

If the company can't find what you're looking for in their yard, they'll know where to get it.

That’s the answer you’ll get when you call MasterRents and ask manager Al Garber whether they can rent you a Cat mini-excavator and a multi terrain loader, or two skid steers or an auger and a bucket or…you get the picture.

"We say ’yes’ and we mean it," said Garber, "because even if we don’t have what the caller is asking for right here in our yard, I know I can get it for him."

An affiliate of local construction company, J. Masterson Construction of Danvers, Mass., MasterRents is a member of the Milton CAT Rental Alliance, a network of independently owned and operated rental companies throughout the region that offer daily and weekly rental of Caterpillar equipment.

"We have invested in top of the line equipment and we keep it in top condition, serviced and ready to go," said Garber. Their full line includes skid steers, multi-terrain loaders, mini-excavators, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, telehandlers, generators, boom lifts and air compressors, and a complete range of work tools such as hammers, sweepers and rockhounds. As a Rental Alliance member, MasterRents also receives training from Milton CAT, as well as sales and marketing support, including lead-generating programs, store conditioners, posters and handouts.

But there’s another key element that MasterRents is providing local contractors — personal, expert attention. And that makes a big difference. As owner Jeff Masterson describes, being busy contractors themselves, J. Masterson Construction went through the same frustrating experience, over and over.

"We’d call a rental company looking to get something in a rush, and we found out that either they had been acquired by a larger national outfit, or they were no longer in business, or they asked us to leave a name and number and ’somebody would call us later,’ so we had to wait around for someone to get in touch with us.

"When and if they did call us back, they knew nothing about the equipment and had no idea of what our needs were, so they could give us no useful advice."

J. Masterson manager Bill Peach added, "We figured if we were being treated that way, there were probably many others like us who were going through the same pain and that there was a business opportunity."

And how is it working? Since it was started in the spring of 2012, MasterRents is quickly proving the point — contractors of all sizes on the North Shore appreciate having a reliable, expert and committed local source for Cat equipment and work tools. If you ask a MasterRents customer, by "reliable," they mean more than a place that offers top of the line equipment, but also a company operated by people who understand what being in construction is all about and what machine or work tool is right for a job, according to the company.
