The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking comment on two projects — bridges near Wolf Creek and resurfacing on Montana Highway 200.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is notifying the public and seeking comment on two projects.

One project implements improvements on bridges near Wolf Creek in Lewis and Clark County.

The second project involves a paving project along 11.8 mi. of highway in McCrone County.

Bridges Near Wolf Creek

The project includes two bridges at the Wolf Creek Interchange (Exit 226) on Interstate 15 and the Little Prickly Pear Creek bridge on Walsh Street in Wolf Creek.

Proposed work includes bridge deck milling and overlays on the interstate bridges and replacing the bridge deck on the Little Prickly Pear Creek bridge. Bridge rail modifications also are within the scope of the project.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2020, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. Construction will likely involve slight delays, lane shifts, reduced lane widths and alternating one-way traffic. MDT plans to maintain access over Little Prickly Pear Creek Bridge during construction, however, restricted vehicle widths and weights are likely. No new right-of-way or utility relocations are currently anticipated.

The purpose of the project is to prevent further deterioration and extend the service life of the bridges.

Resurfacing Project on Montana Highway 200

The second project proposes to resurface about 11.8 mi. of Montana Highway 200 between Brockway and Circle in McCone County.

The project begins approximately one-half mile west of the intersection with Secondary Highway 253 near Brockway at reference post 267.0 and extends east for 11.8 mi., ending at the intersection with Mayberry Road/14th Street on the west edge of Circle at reference post 278.8.

Proposed work includes widening of the shoulders to 6 ft., cold milling and overlaying with new plant mix surfacing, seal and cover (chip seal), centerline and shoulder rumble strips, upgraded signing and pavement markings.

The purpose of the project is to preserve and extend the life of the pavement, provide a safer, smoother riding surface and reduce maintenance costs. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

Typically, pavement preservation projects of this size and scope are advanced to construction as soon as possible, generally within two to three years. An actual target construction date will be determined based on the anticipated completion of all design activities and when funding can be allocated.
