The Minnesota Utility Contractors Association (MUCA) was awarded a 2007 Chapter Award of Excellence at NUCA’s Fifth Annual National Awards Dinner held on May 21 at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. (in conjunction with the Washington Summit/Spring Meetings).

The 2007 Chapter Award of Excellence in Periodical Publications went to MUCA for its quarterly, four-color magazine — Underground Press. With the help of a new publisher, MUCA redesigned and reorganized the layout of the publication in 2007 to make it more reader-friendly and attract a broader audience that includes not only contractor and associate members, but also non-members and policy makers. According to Executive Director DeAnn Stish, the publication provides “cutting edge, underground construction-related material that [readers] cannot get anywhere else.”

The publication is self-funded through advertising.
