Route 322
NJDOT officials announced a project to resurface more than 4 mi. (6.4 km) of Route 322 (Black Horse Pike) in both directions from east of the S. Main Street intersection to just west of Seymour Street in Monroe Township, Gloucester County.
The contractor is Arawak Paving Co. The $2.5 million project will resurface Route 322 in both directions with a new surface course of asphalt pavement between mileposts 25.9 and 30.7 in Monroe.
Mainline resurfacing operations will begin this summer. Resurfacing work will require single-lane closures in each direction. One lane will be maintained in each direction at all times on Route 322.
• During the summer months, from May 15 through September 15, construction restrictions will be in place prohibiting any weekend lane closures. ?
• Access to all businesses and residences along the state highway will be maintained throughout construction.
Drainage inlet upgrades and new roadway striping and raised-pavement markings also will be provided throughout the project limits. New image detection cameras will be installed at certain intersections to replace the existing, underground loop detectors. These cameras are linked to traffic signals and help maximize the capacity of Route 322.
Route 322 carries approximately 20,000 vehicles per day through this location, but that number rises during the summer season. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.
Route 28
NJDOT officials announced a project to resurface more than 5 mi. (8.1 km) of Route 28 in both directions from the vicinity of the Green Brook in Bound Brook Borough, Somerset County to just east of Hamilton Avenue in Dunellen, Middlesex County.
The contractor is Schifano Construction. The $2.3 million project will resurface Route 28 in both directions with a new surface course of asphalt pavement from milepost 7.4 in Bound Brook, through Middlesex Borough to milepost 12.5 in Dunellen. The contractor also will be making some full-depth concrete repairs to the roadway at certain locations.
Mainline resurfacing operations are expected to begin before the end of summer. Work requiring single-lane closures will be performed during overnight and off-peak hours in order to minimize traffic impacts on Route 28, a heavily traveled east-west corridor in central New Jersey. Access to all businesses and residences along the state highway will be maintained throughout construction.
Upgraded signage, roadway striping and guide rail also will be provided as needed. New image detection cameras will be installed at certain intersections to replace the existing, underground loop detectors. These cameras are linked to traffic signals and help maximize the capacity of Route 28.
The project was designed in-house by NJDOT engineers. Construction is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.
Route 1
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced a project to resurface sections of Route 1 in both directions in Plainsboro, South Brunswick and North Brunswick in Middlesex County.
The Route 1 intersection with New Road in South Brunswick will be reconfigured to relieve congestion at that location as part of the project, as well.
The contractor is Schifano Construction.
The $8.5 million project will resurface Route 1 mainline in both directions with a new surface course of asphalt pavement and also will address the roadway shoulders and selected ramps.
• Route 1 southbound will be resurfaced from just south of the Route 91 (Jersey Avenue) interchange (milepost 22.9) in North Brunswick to just north of the College Road interchange (milepost 13.9) in Plainsboro.
• Route 1 northbound will be resurfaced from south of Ridge Road (milepost 14.4) to just north of Raymond Road (milepost 15.9) and from the vicinity of Whispering Woods Boulevard (milepost 17) to just north of Deans Lane (milepost 19.8), all in South Brunswick.
Work requiring lane closures will be performed at night, under the allowable lane closure schedule, in order to minimize traffic impacts on Route 1, a heavily traveled north-south corridor through central New Jersey. Access to all businesses and residences along the state highway will be maintained throughout construction.
New Road will be widened east of Route 1 and the local roadway will be restriped to provide an additional travel lane in either direction. The dedicated right-turn lane from New Road eastbound onto Route 1 southbound will be reconfigured to accommodate a shared thru lane/right-turn lane and traffic signal modifications will be made at the intersection as well.
Upgraded signage, roadway striping and guide rail also will be provided as needed.
The project was designed in-house by NJDOT engineers. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.
