NMC CAT held its second annual Field Day customer event Aug. 2 in Tecumseh, Neb. to demonstrate how using Trimble technology with National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) software can significantly reduce the time needed to terrace a field in order to prepare it for the growing season.

“The ultimate purpose of the Field Day event,” said Russ Newton of NMC CAT. “was to show how our Trimble software can handshake with the new NRCS software so that the project can move from design, to survey, to machine and guide the operator to build and finish the terraces in an overall shorter time span, having as-built results already in place at the end of the job.”

Due to a federal directive passed two years ago, new terrace design and survey software, which allows local NRCS offices to build 3D computer models of terraces and waterways using GPS technology, is slowly replacing the outdated NRCS terrace design and survey system currently that is used throughout southeastern Nebraska.

At Field Day, NMC CAT sponsored presentations and demonstrations to educate customers about the benefits of using Trimble GPS technology with this updated NRCS software. The morning began with presentations from Chris Kennedy, an NRCS Civil Engineering Technician, and Trimble representatives. NMC CAT also provided information about its available services, such as condition monitoring and technology. The event also included customer education stations; the four stations included an excavator, dozer, motorgrader and skid steer loader.

This year, local farmer Kevin Kuhlmann allowed NMC CAT to host its field fay on his property. He hired fellow local farmer and contractor Craig Rieken to work with NMC CAT to prepare Kuhlmann’s land for the event.
