On Thursday, March 29, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) will open the doors of its new, state-of-the-art New Jersey Carpenters Apprentice Training Center in Edison, N.J. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and provide state and local elected officials, local businesses and organizations and other attendees with a chance to tour the building.

Among those in attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony include: New Jersey State Governor Phil Murphy, Congressman Frank Pallone, State Senator Joseph Cryan, State Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, Mayor of Edison Thomas Lankey, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Executive Board, staff and members and various representatives from the NJ Legislature and Department of Labor. Contractors, architects and developers that helped to construct the facility will also be at the event.

“Our new Carpenters Training Center is custom designed to fit the needs of our membership and provide our apprentice and journeyman carpenters with the best equipment and training offered in the industry,” said Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Executive Secretary-Treasurer John Ballantyne. “Individuals who are interested in a good paying career with great health/retirement benefits and zero college debt should consider a career as a Union Carpenter.”

The new Training Center features:

  • Classrooms retrofitted with state-of-the-art Audio/Visual technology;
  • Spacious hands-on training for all the skillsets in carpentry, flooring, mill-cabinet, millwright and pile driving trades;
  • An overhead bridge crane for rigging steel concrete forms, pile driving materials and millwright equipment;
  • 14 welding booths;
  • A fully equipped cabinet shop to support training for our mill-cabinet program; and
  • A 300-seat auditorium with theater seating for NRCC meetings & conferences, professional presentations and apprentice orientations & graduations.

“This ribbon cutting is not only opening the doors of a new training facility, it is providing a pathway for good jobs and the opportunities for hardworking men and women to have careers that will provide for themselves and their families,” said New Jersey State Senator Steve Sweeney. “By combining job training with classroom education, you are empowering apprentice carpenters with the skills needed to compete in the modern economy. A skilled workforce is one of the most important components of a growing economy that offers opportunities to everyone. I congratulate the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters for this state-of-the-art facility and applaud the Union's leaders for helping to train current members with new skills and to support new generations of well-trained workers.”
