The Vulcan Franklin, Tenn., plant hosted a site visit on Nov. 11 for members of the NUCA of Middle Tennessee Chapter Members.

Vulcan Materials Company is the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates — primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel — and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials, including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. Their coast-to-coast footprint and strategic distribution network align with and serve the nation's growth centers. In particular, the Vulcan plant in Franklin is a supplier and distributor of construction materials. It offers construction aggregates, including gravel, sand and crushed stone, for use in building bridges, parking lots, roads, airport runways, houses, apartments, schools, commercial buildings and more.

Members met and were greeted by Vulcan employees and were given a short safety instruction. After the lunch provided by Vulcan, members toured the plant by bus. This included the underground portion of the plant where attendees got an inside look at how products are made and how the rock is retrieved underground. Company members represented included The Hanover Insurance Group, Sunbelt Rentals, Westfield Group, Diamond Equipment, Bobcat of Nashville, Core & Main, HUB International, Rawso Constructors, Sunbelt Rentals, TN811, Cleary Construction and Southern Site Contractors.
