PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Highway construction season is getting under way in Eastern Oregon, and travelers can expect to see plenty of orange cones and warning signs along Interstate 84.

There are already more than a dozen separate work zones for highway and bridge projects along the 200-mi. (321 km) stretch of the freeway between Boardman and the Idaho border.

Additional projects will begin on I-84 over the next few months.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is warning travelers to watch for work crews, slow down and pay extra attention in work zones, where traffic fines double.

Some of the big projects including the Stanfield Interchange and Umatilla River bridges.
