A project that will repair two bridges in Dayton will require the closure of OR 18 from OR 154 (Lafayette Highway) to OR 99W (Pacific Highway) at McDougall Junction for three weeks in May. Nightly one-lane closures will be periodic through September. The project includes asphalt paving of OR 18 between mileposts 50 to 53, along with special repairs to the Yamhill River Bridge and OR 221 overcrossing on OR 18.
From May 5 to May 23, the OR 18 Ash Road to McDougall Junction Project, will require travelers to detour 8 mi. around the closure. The detour takes eastbound traffic on OR 154, north to Lafayette and east on OR 99W to McDougall Junction. The detour is in reverse for travelers from the Dundee area. Local traffic will be able to travel to and from Dayton on OR18 from OR 154 to the OR 18/OR 221 (Salem – Dayton Highway) interchange.
The repairs to the bridges include: resurfacing the bridge decks that are in poor condition; replacing the bridge joints; upgrading the bridge rails to meet current standards and recoating all the steel. The signs and guardrail within the project limits also will be upgraded.
The three-week full closure will be continuous (24 hours per day) Monday through Friday at 6 a.m. each weekday. The roadway will be open each weekend for normal travel. Prior to May 5 and after the full closure, there will be periodic night time one lane closures on OR 18 from Sunday night at midnight to 5 a.m. Monday, and nightly Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Travelers should expect up to 20-minute delays during these closures.
Variable message signs will be posted at various locations to warn travelers of the construction, any potential delays and when the detour is required. The detour during the full closure will take an additional 15 minutes or so of travel time using OR 154 at Lafayette to OR 99W.
The majority of the work is expected to be completed by mid-July. The contract requires completion prior to Sept. 30.
