Sen. Jason H. Wilson will be the featured speaker at the 13th annual Harrison Coal and Reclamation Dinner/Auction May 12. Wilson’s discussion topics will include the use of coal and alternative fuels. Currently, he is the ranking member of the Agriculture Committee and sits on the Highways and Transportation Committee and Energy and Public Utilities Committee.

Dale Davis, HCRHP vice president, also will present a short history of the surface mining in Harrison County.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Social Hall, located on E. Main St., Hopedale, Ohio. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner of fried chicken, beef, mashed potatoes, noodles, veggies, salad, desert and beverages.

The Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park Inc. is a 501-C3 non profit organization formed in 1992 with the idea of acquiring and preserving for future generations, our surface mining and reclamation history in Harrison County and the Ohio Valley.

Many mining companies worked in Harrison County and the Ohio Valley, both deep mines and surface operations including Hanna/Consolidation Coal, R&F Coal Co, Boich Mining, Bedway Coal, Nelms 1 and 2.

The event will highlight these companies and the men and women who spent their lives here, the machines that were invented to make the coal digging easier and the land management and new reclamation techniques developed here.

HCRHP will try to preserve and present to the public an exhibition center featuring this history.

HCRHP accepts cash donations (which are tax deductible) to help raise the funds directed at the organization’s other objectives.
