Fluor Idaho will lead a workforce of approximately 1,700 personnel, the vast majority of whom were performing cleanup work with the incumbent contractors.

Operational responsibilities for environmental management work at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho operations office were transitioned to Fluor Idaho LLC, marking the start of a five-year contract to support cleanup at the department's Idaho site.

“We're looking forward to working with our teaming partners and DOE to continue the impressive cleanup work that is taking place here in Idaho,” said Fred Hughes, Fluor Idaho president and program manager. “This is extremely important work for the residents of Idaho and for the long-term mission of the Idaho National Laboratory.”

Fluor Idaho will focus on safely integrating, accelerating and delivering the Idaho cleanup mission, including processing transuranic waste for disposal, completing buried waste retrieval, and managing spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste.

The work consolidates the Idaho Cleanup Project and Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project contracts, and will support multiple national and state regulatory agreements, including the 1995 Idaho Settlement Agreement.

The start of operations ends a three-month transition period that Fluor Idaho personnel have spent becoming familiar with the facilities, processes and personnel performing cleanup work at the Idaho site.
