Change is one of the few constants in life, and the oil laboratories of Cleveland Brothers are no exception to this. Having maintained two separate laboratories for the past few years, the decision was made to consolidate operations and upgrade capabilities in the Harrisburg, Pa., facility.

Heading up this challenge is Casey Conroy, Cleveland Brothers Fluid Analysis Laboratory manager.

“With over 250 samples/day to analyze and report on, the lab plays a critical role for equipment owners and an uninterrupted service was a priority while decisions were made on consolidation,” said Conroy.

While approximately doubling the physical size of the original Harrisburg laboratory the renovated laboratory also has upgraded many of the computing and testing apparatus.

What separates Cleveland Brothers Fluid Analysis Laboratory from the oil vendors’ laboratories is its ability to provide results within 24-hour timeframe as well as accurate and informative interpretations.

Nearly all of the Cleveland Brothers laboratory technicians have completed Caterpillar’s training course on Lab Interpretation. The training has proven vital to equipment owners throughout the region by providing the most recent information and procedures recommended by Cat, which were shared and discussed in these classroom settings.

A Cleveland Brothers technician can tell an owner many things about the condition and health of machinery by trending data and metal readings.

For instance, particular levels of zinc in the hydraulic compartment can reveal whether or not the correct oil is being used in the system. Elevated potassium and sodium levels point knowledgeable lab technicians to alert customers of a possible coolant entry in the system.

On average, 3 to 4 percent of samples produce an Action Required alert level that suggests taking corrective action before continual use of the machine.

Cleveland Brothers Fluid Analysis Laboratory provides reports with the history for customers to trend their own equipment, but also the necessary recommendations to maintain optimum operating conditions.
