Pennsylvania Builders Association Honors Members

Construction Equipment Guide


The Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recognized 16 projects as recipients of the Tenth Annual Merit Construction Award of Excellence at the Chapter’s Awards Banquet. Upwards of 500 ABC members and guests attended this event.

Over the past 10 years, more than 300 projects have been entered in this annual competition, representing close to a billion dollars of construction in the Delaware Valley region. Judges, representing area construction user firms, developers, architects and engineers, evaluated the projects during site visits in September.

The purpose of the construction awards program is to showcase the high-quality construction offered by the association’s membership to the construction user market. Projects were judged by an objective set of criterion, based on category entered, which evaluated such components as HVAC and plumbing, walls, exterior skin of building, wall and floor covering, landscaping and paving.

In the Institutional Under $2 Million category, the Glen Mills School in Concordville won top honors. C. Raymond Davis & Sons Inc. of Kimberton, was the general contractor and Fred R. Zeitter designed the project.

Taking first place in the Institutional $2 to $5 Million category was Delran Builders Company Inc., a Wyndmoor-based general contractor, for Brubaker Hall at Beaver College in Glenside. The architect was The Hillier Group.

In the Institutional Over $5 Million Category, E. Allen Reeves Inc., a general contractor in Abington, won for the Calvary Church of Souderton. This project was designed by Mann-Hughes Architects.

In the Institutional-Electrical/Mechanical category, Bill Gillespie Electric Inc., an electrical contractor in East Greenville, took first place for Calvary Church of Souderton. Mann-Hughes Architects designed this project.

The best Heavy Construction-Sitework project award went to Drum Construction Co. Inc., a Telford based contractor, for the Philadelphia Zoo. The project was designed by Lager Raabe Landscape Architects Inc.

Target Building Construction Inc. was the winner in the Restoration/Renovation Under $2 Million category for the Wilmington Trust Commercial Banking Center in West Chester. The architect was Moeckel Carbonell Associates Inc.

In the Restoration/Renovation Over $2 Million category, Pancoast & Clifford Inc., a contractor in West Chester, took home top honors for renovations to Rathalla Hall at Rosemont College in Rosemont. Architectural Alliance was the architect.

In the Residential, Single Family category, a private residence in Malvern finished first. C. Raymond Davis & Sons Inc. was the general contractor and Peter Zimmerman Architects designed the project.

E. Allen Reeves Inc., a general contractor in Abington, was the winner in the Residential, Multi-Family category for the Maple Village project in Hatboro. The project was designed by Lenhardt, Lolli and Rodgers Architects.

Boro Construction of King of Prussia, was the winner in the Public Construction Category for the Great Valley Middle School in East Whiteland Township. This was designed by Breslin Ridyard Fadero Architects.

Gorski Construction Company Inc., a Collegeville-based contractor, took top honors in the Industrial category for the RCN Philadelphia Operations Center in Trooper. This was a design/build project.

Perkiomen Valley Plumbing & Heating Inc. of Perkiomenville came in first place in the Specialty category for the Snow Making System at Spring Mountain Ski Area in Spring Mount. This was a design/build project.

The winner in the Pre-Engineered Building category was Gorski Construction Company Inc. for Thortex America in Collegeville. This was a design/build project.

In the Commercial Under $2 Million category, Carroll Contractors Inc. won first place for the Braxton’s Animal Works in Wayne. The building was designed by John Burzynski Associates and Riehl Construction.

The top winner in the Commercial $2 to 5 Million category was Target Building Construction Inc. for The Shops of Villanova in Villanova. This was a design/build project.

Receiving the award for the best Commercial Project Over $5 Million was The Norwood Company, a general contractor in West Chester, for 2201 Renaissance Boulevard/AETNA U.S. Healthcare in King of Prussia. The architect for the project was Cathers & Associates.

The awards were announced during a video presentation which highlighted all of the projects entered in the competition. ABC members who served as specialty contractors and suppliers on all the projects entered were also recognized. Competition finalists also received awards of merit.
