PRECO Electronics, a global leader in heavy-duty collision avoidance solutions, announced Fraley & Schilling's Michael Posz as the recipient of the 2017 Excellence in Safety Award. Posz, who took over as Fraley & Schilling's director of safety in 2016, has cultivated an existing safety culture with the introduction of new technology, increased education and additional onboard training.

The results of his efforts realized a 50 percent decline in incidents in 2017 for Fraley & Schilling while his organization has grown from 200 to more than 500 trucks.

PRECO's Excellence in Safety Award is the most recognizable safety award in heavy-duty industries. Now in its seventh year, PRECO's Excellence in Safety Award has received a record number of submissions from a wide variety of heavy-duty markets.

“The Excellence in Safety Award is an open invitation to heavy-duty industries to nominate safety professionals that are shaping the industry,” said Jim Bean, CEO of PRECO Electronics. “PRECO is proud to recognize Mike for his contribution and commitment to protecting the lives of millions of people every year. Mike, through his actions, encapsulates the foresight, integrity and vision to be the 2017 recipient of PRECO's award.”

Posz's persistence in improving daily driver safety habits ties back to ongoing education and training, incorporation of new ideas and safety procedures, as well as the application of safety technology. The combination of these three safety pillars is the key to allowing Posz to break bad habits. In particular, Posz's adoption of inward and outward facing video cameras has allowed him to not only understand past accidents but avoid future incidents.

Posz, who is a member of various state-run trucking associations, has been credited with defining and enhancing the safety culture at Fraley & Schilling. Due in large part to this culture, Fraley & Schilling has been able to grow at a rapid pace, mitigate the number of safety incidents and protect both their drivers and the general public.

“It is a great honor to accept this award on behalf of Fraley & Schilling and the 500 plus drivers that make an impact every day,” said Posz. “Leveraging the structure and integrity that I learned from 21 years of service in the U.S. Army has allowed me to appreciate the importance of positive habits. I have tried to incorporate those habits, as well as new ideas and technology that will allow our drivers to be better at their job and help diminish accidents and save lives.”

Past recipients of the Excellence in Safety Award include representatives from the Solid Waste Association of America (SWANA), City of Oxnard Environmental Resource Division, Rumpke Waste & Recycling, Honolulu Disposal, Unimin, and Montana Dakota Utilities.
