Various infrastructure projects in the Municipality of Dorado, which have long been deferred, will finally be realized, Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works (DOT) officials said.

The secretary of transportation and public works, Carlos González Miranda, said that many projects that have been pending since the administration of Rafael Hernández Columbus, the former governor, will now be realized. He emphasized that the projects are crucial to the neighboorhood of Maguayo’s development.

“In our pledge to support the efforts of this administration to achieve significant advances in the development of the entire country, we are investing $6.1 million in highway authority funds to assist Dorado in implementing vital infrastructure improvements,” said González Miranda.

His statements were supported by the mayor of Dorado, Carlos López, and the executive director of highways, Luis M. Trinidad Garay.

The DOT has completed or is currently performing approximately 1,800 construction projects in some 430 Puerto Rican communities, with a total price tag approaching $250 million.

The executive director of highways, Trinidad Garay, said these projects include improvements to the drainage system of PR 694, including the channeling of Chorro Maguayo.

“The channeling will be carried out by constructing a new drain and an open channel that uses flexible retention walls,” he explained.

The officer of the DOT reported that he will work on relocating utilities, asphalt and pavement markings, and on establishing a plan for sowing in the area.

Enthusiastically supporting this work, the mayor said that the community of Maguayo had expressed concern about traveling through intersections on rainy days because of the floods they have suffered.

“We are assisting a community that, for decades, suffered through serious floods. I am very pleased to have assisted these families,” López said.

“Works such as these constitute the essential infrastructure to satisfy the growing needs of our communities. These works promise to improve the quality of life in areas, which, for many years, have needed government action to advance development,” González Miranda said.
