Robert “Bob” Rapp, 69, owner of Rapp Conco Inc., of Rockaway Township, NJ, died on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, after a long illness.
Rapp had been in the business of repairing and rebuilding heavy construction equipment for 40 years. At one time, his company was known as Rapp Welding and Diesel Services and was located in Fairfield, NJ.
Ben Daniels, owner of Ben Daniels Construction Equipment, Binghamton, NY, had shared an equipment yard with Rapp for several years and formed a strong friendship.
“I have known Bob for 25 years,” Daniels began. “He was a family-oriented man and enjoyed spending time with his children on his farm in Pennsylvania. Bob was a very caring individual and would help people out when necessary. Because of his huge heavy equipment rebuild business, he was well known in the industry.”
Hank Spies, used equipment manager of Southworth-Milton, also had a long-standing friendship with Rapp.
“He was a very talented man and was known for the quality of his work. He also was fair in his business dealings. As an example, if you were in a deal with him and there was 11 cents to be split, Bob would make sure that you got six [cents],” Spies said.
Spies also spoke of Rapp as being a family-oriented man who enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his children and all those who visited his farm.
Rapp is survived by Bernice, his wife of 48 years; a son, Robert “Robby;” a daughter, Cynthia; and six grandchildren.
