Ravi Menon, Stoody, vice president, technology, has been elected to the 2005 Class of Fellows of the American Welding Society (AWS) and was inducted in April during the AWS Annual Meeting held in Dallas, TX.
Ray W. Shook, AWS executive director, notified Menon of the honor in October 2004. He noted in a letter, “Your election as an AWS counselor is in recognition for a career of distinguished organizational leadership that has enhanced the image and impact of the welding industry.”
Menon earned his doctorate in metallurgical engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1984 while specializing in welding metallurgy.
He joined Stoody in 1994 as the director of research. He has been primarily involved in the development of hard facing consumables for industries such as steel, power generation, and oil exploration. His recent interests include the development of flux-cored wires for chrome-moly steels and nickel-based alloys.
Menon has numerous industry publications to his credit and is currently the recipient of three U.S. patents pertaining to surfacing alloys and methods.
He is currently located at the Thermadyne manufacturing and distribution facility in Bowling Green, KY.
