Ronny Jones, of Ronny D. Jones Enterprises Inc., is no stranger to the utility construction industry. With more than 40 years experience in the industry and a Georgia Utility Contractors Association member since 1986, this Newnan, Coweta County, native is a third-generation utility contractor.

For his work in the field, Jones was named the association’s Contractor Member of the Year. His involvement with GUCA started early and his commitment and timeless work for damage prevention in Georgia and the nation is why he is the recipient of this award.

Jones’ company is heavily focused on site development for private developers and underground utility systems for public works. With 67 employees, Jones’ company has excelled over the years and has become competitive among his bidding peers.

As president of GUCA in 1991, Jones experienced early on the advantages of being involved in association work. Since then he has been instrumental in shaping Georgia’s Call Before You Dig Law for more than 10 years and has served on local Georgia Utility Coordinating Council (GUCC) committees as well as involved with GUCC on the state level.

Jones also continued to serve on GUCA’s board during 1994 and 1995 and chaired several committees, such as Utility Locate Committee and the 1996-1997 Legislative/PAC and Industry committees.

Not only has he been involved on the state level, Jones has been involved with the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) as director and eventually moving up to vice president. He worked with the Common Ground Alliance representing excavators on the Records Committee Task Force.

Ronny D. Jones Enterprises Inc. was the recipient of the GUCA Hard Hat Safety Award in 1996 and 1999 and continues to help raise the bar for safety awareness. He recently served on the Senate appointed advisory committee for GUFPA and, through this committee, was responsible for changing the face of damage prevention in Georgia making it more contractor friendly. This alone stands as a milestone, not only for GUCA members, but the entire excavation community.

Jones serves on the board of directors of Skills USA, a national organization serving more than 264,500 high school and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations.

Jones also is very involved with Angel House, a children’s emergency shelter for Newnan and Coweta counties. He is currently a board member with the Coweta County Airport Authority and also is a past president and board member of Habitat for Humanity in Coweta County.
