R.W. Moore Equipment Company, a full-service John Deere equipment dealer, will host its Third Annual Deere Run to Kernersville June 8. This year’s event will benefit Hospice of Wake County.

“When we began to think about our clients’ interests, we discovered a common passion for motorcycles,” said Dan Moore, president of R.W. Moore Equipment Company. “Therefore, we created an event that is centered on that common passion. This passion for riding, coupled with a unified desire to benefit Hospice of Wake County has led to our employees, vendors and customers having a fantastic day together.”

In years past, R.W. Moore Equipment Company quietly asked riders when registering if they would like to make a donation to Hospice and the company would match the total amount donated by the riders. This year, the company is escalating its efforts by holding a 50/50 drawing in addition to the regular donation match to benefit Hospice of Wake County.

“The staff and volunteers of Hospice of Wake County greatly appreciate the commitment of Dan Moore and R.W. Moore Equipment Company to support hospice care in our community. The annual motorcycle ride is a joyful celebration of life that benefits those at end of life. The contributions raised by R.W. Moore, combined with the proceeds from the North State Bank Summer Salute to Hospice, will ensure quality care for 20 percent more patients this year,”  said John Thoma, chief executive officer for Hospice of Wake County.  “Because of generous support such as this, Hospice of Wake County has for the past 27 years been able to provide quality end of life care to individuals and families regardless of age, place of residence, or diagnosis.”

On June 8, more than 160 riders are expected to make the 100 mi. trek from Garner to Kernersville where they will have lunch and tour the Kernersville facility to view the manufacturing of excavation equipment. Beginning at 8 a.m., this full day event will include a complimentary breakfast at R.W. Moore. Arrival back to the Garner facility is expected at 4 p.m. R.W. Moore also includes a complimentary gas stop each way for all riders. The event will conclude with a final stop at Locked and Loaded for an informal dinner. The Garner restaurant will provide shirt and hat giveaways to the Deere Run participants.

Last year’s event was the second largest corporate contributor to Hospice of Wake County.

“The intention of the motorcycle ride is to get to know one another better by showing our customers and employees that we appreciate their business and value the relationship,” Moore said. The 2007 line-up of riders includes clients, new and established, employees from all six R.W. Moore locations and vendors who all share a passion for motorcycle riding and, for that matter, heavy equipment machinery.

“This event is a fun way to get our clients involved with R.W. Moore and to benefit a great local charity,” Moore said.

Shelton’s Harley-Davidson, Team Powersports and Wake Technical Community College will also be in attendance on June 8 to demo their respective products and services prior to the 9:30 a.m. departure time. Last year’s event gathered more than 80 people, despite the weather, from all over the country. This year, the event is expected to increase more than 100 percent. The 2006 ride showcased a wide array of motorcycles including choppers, cruisers, sport bikes and touring bikes.
